Katherine Kadish is a wonderful artist and dear friend of mine who moved to Yellow Springs in the 1980s to be with and marry Robert Fogerty, a longtime Antioch College professor and editor of the Antioch Review. I got to know them both when I worked for the College in 2012 shortly after it reopened. When Robert passed in 2021, myself along with others, started helping Katherine so she could stay in the home she loves by herself, despite being legally blind, recently widowed and in her 80s. I spend time working in her garden and serve as her driver whenever she needs transportation, which is daily as she is still a working artist. Katherine spends four or five hours every day working in her studio in the old Clifton School about 5 miles away.

Kadish was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She began attending Saturday art classes at the Carnegie Museum at age nine and later received her B.F.A. in painting and design from Carnegie Mellon University, and her M.A. in art history from the University of Chicago. Kadish has exhibited her work internationally in addition to having been awarded a number of prestigious fellowships and residencies. Her art has been sold in galleries from New York, Chicago to London, from around Ohio to the Virginias. Her commissioned art for public spaces hang in government and private office buildings and hotels in London, New York City, Chicago, Washington, DC, Columbus and Dayton areas.
