Dear future Three Ten guests,
Through my new small home business, Three Ten Bed & Breakfast, LLC, I am pleased to share my family home with travelers looking for a place to stay. I aim to provide excellent lodging, service, and modern amenities in a classically run bed & breakfast. I want my guests to experience all Three Ten has to offer as their home away from home when spending time in Yellow Springs.
My family moved to Yellow Springs from Oxford, Ohio, in the summer of 1967 when my dad, a pharmacist, started a new job here. He had become partners in business with his pharmacist older brother, my Uncle Bud, running the corner drugstore serving the local community. We moved into our new house at 310 Dayton Street. I was about to start the second grade (older brother, John, fourth grade) at a new school, Mills Lawn Elementary, just two blocks away.
My parents went to work immediately, redecorating with fresh paint and new wallpaper in familiar colors, matching our old furniture to make this new house feel like our home. One of the first things they did was give our home a name when they spelled out “Three Ten” in big brass letters across to the top of the front door. For over 50 years, Three Ten has been the beloved Johnson family home, filled with love and joy, style and grace, providing calm and comfort, warmth and protection, surrounded by charm and beauty inside and out.
I left Yellow Springs after graduating from high school in 1978 to pursue my education, adult life, and career over the next 30 years. I returned to visit my family three or four times a year, and Three Ten always welcomed me home, giving me all it had to offer. In the spring of 2013, I moved back to Yellow Springs to work for the reopened Antioch College and be close to my parents. Dad passed in 2019 and Mom in 2020, both at 91, living out their years at Three Ten, the home they loved.
Over the years, I was a frequent traveler, mainly for work, regularly making two or three trips a month to the same set of cities and metro areas. I discovered early on that I preferred lodging at a bed & breakfast over downtown and beltway hotels when traveling. In most major cities, I still have a favorite bed & breakfast that I call home away from home, in neighborhoods that remind me of Yellow Springs and old houses like Three Ten.
Thank you for visiting the Three Ten Bed & Breakfast website and considering the possibility of being our guest.
Safe and joyful travel,
Jim Johnson
