Tom grew up in Yellow Springs and I played tennis with him growing up here. After graduating from the YS High School, Tom was trained as a pianist at the Cleveland Institute of Music and earned a liberal arts degree at Case Western Reserve University. 

Bachtell is a self-taught artist, illustrator and caricaturist, who works primarily in brush and ink with a drawing style that harkens back to many of the classic American illustrators and cartoonists. He contributed to the New Yorker’s Talk of the Town as well as other sections for 25 years. His work has been in many other publications, including New York Review of Books, Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek, Forbes, Bon Appetit, Town & Country, Mother Jones, New York, Poetry, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal. He recently illustrated the New York Times bestseller “Bag Man” by Rachel Maddow and Michael Yarvitz, as well as the popular Trach-Bach Mahjong set for Crisloid.com.
